Friends of Israel Create Israel 60 Birthday Anniversary Website

Friends of Israel Create Israel 60 Birthday Anniversary Website

Israel News Agency

Jerusalem ----- April 30, 2008 ....... Friends of Israel has created an Israel 60th Birthday celebration Website to secure global support for Israel and to provide relief for Israel charities.

"The world is full of people who hate Israel for no reason other than it simply exists," says Aharon Grundman, Friends of Israel Vice President of International Marketing. "It makes no difference what Israel does, how many people this small democracy helps or how it struggles to defend itself. Israel will always remain wrong by default and by ignorance for many."

To counter that, Friends of Israel has created an Israel 60 Anniversary Birthday Website (IsraelBirthday.com) where every citizen of the world can illustrate their love, faith and respect for Israel and what it stands for as Israel celebrates her 60th birthday anniversary celebration.

The Israel 60 Birthday Website enables hundreds of thousands of supporters from around the world to post a personal Happy Birthday card to Israel. Every Friends of Israel supporter will have their name, picture, and message proudly placed on IsraelBirthday.com.

"This call will be heard worldwide, loud and clear saying" 'Israel, we're with you whenever you need us. United we stand'," says Grundman.

In addition, in honor of Israel's 60th birthday anniversary, all supporters posting on the site will automatically be entered to win an all-expense-paid trip to Israel for two. The proceeds will be distributed among Israel's top charities.

Friends of Israel was created by a group of Americans who care about Israel's future..

"There are millions of people out there who share the happiness of the people of Israel on its diamond anniversary. Yet, they have been missing an effective method for expressing their joy to the people of Israel. Furthermore, we believe this to be an all-important vote of confidence in the basic goodness of Israel. The importance of this show of solidarity cannot be overemphasized," says Ari Flynn, President of Friends of Israel.

"This is a crucial junction in the history of Israel. Political demands on Israel have become so insane that the only antidote is unconditional support," adds Grundman. "We are here to declare that Israel is a democracy that is fundamentally good and moral and an asset to all of humanity. Thousands are out there condemning Israel's every move."

Friends of Israel's 60 Birthday Celebration Website is expected to reach over 40 million people through their Website and aims at generating over 2 million dollars for Israeli charities which provide food, shelter and medical care for those in need.

"What Israel needs is people - ordinary people - to come along and just stand by it and provide it with the love and moral support it needs to face its challenges," says Flynn.

Friends of Israel is reaching out to every American, every citizen of Europe and every nation in Asia. "From New York, Chicago, Miami, and Los Angeles to London, Madrid, Rome, Paris and Tokyo, Friends of Israel wants people to stand up and be counted for their support of Israel while at the same time contributing to charities in Israel," says Flynn.

"It's vital to note that Friends of Israel has no political agenda and offers no opinions. Friends of Israel isn't right-winged, centrists or leftist. Personally, some of us are right-wingers, some left-wingers, and others are centrists - but we leave that all behind. We're not here to advise Israel what it should or shouldn't do. We're here to offer pure and unconditional, love," explains Flynn.

Among the major Israel charities associated with the Friends of Israel 60th Birthday Website is the Jewish National Fund, Nefesh B'Nefesh, American Friends of Magen David Adom, the One Family Fund, Aish, Yad Sarah, Yad Eliezer, StandWithUs, Chai Lifeline and many others.

Many of the events planned for Israel's 60 birthday are already taking place from Philadelphia, Toronto and San Francisco to Manchester, Atlanta and Jerusalem. On the eve of Israel Independence Day, May 7, a dazzling laser, light show will illuminate Israel’s skies. Citizens of Beersheba, Haifa, Eilat, Netanya , Tiberias, Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Ashdod will all be able to enjoy this Israel 60th birthday event.

On Israel Independence Day, Wednesday May 8, The Israel Air Force will provide a colorful and creative air show and a flyby across the skies of Israel. A huge IDF paratrooper demonstration will also take place, as well as an IDF naval review by the Israel Sea Corps. Israel President, Shimon Peres, will also hold a joint birthday party at his Jerusalem residence for all in Israel sharing a Hebrew-calendar birthday with the State of Israel.

Three massive Israel 60 birthday concerts will take place in Israel's Tel Aviv’s Rabin Square as well as in Nitzanim beach in the south and Achziv beach in the north. Each of these Israel 60th birthday concerts will be dedicated to different age groups, and will feature different and unique musical styles. Israel Anglo Singles, the largest Anglo singles dating and support site in Israel, is planning a large Israel 60 birthday beach picnic in Tel Aviv.

A long list of celebrities will be coming to Israel for the Israel 60th birthday anniversary celebrations. They include: film director Steven Spielberg, US President George W. Bush, former USSR President Mikhail Gorbachev, ex-US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, Middle East Quartet envoy Tony Blair, Indonesian President Abdurrahman Wahid, French philosopher Bernard-Henri Le'vy, Nobel laureate Elie Wiesel, Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner, former German foreign minister Joscka Fischer, the last president of Czechoslovakia and the first President of the Czech Republic, Vaclav Havel, News Corporation Chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch, social networking Web site Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and Google co-founder Sergey Brin.

Friends of Israel's 60 Birthday Celebration Website is expected to reach over 40 million people through their Website and aims at generating over 2 million dollars for Israeli charities which provide food, shelter and medical care for those in need.

Palestinians Block Fuel, Create Humanitarian Crisis In Gaza

Palestinians Block Fuel, Create Humanitarian Crisis In Gaza

By Israel News Agency Staff

Jerusalem ----- April 24, 2008 ....... The following was communicated by the Israel Coordination and Liaison Administration, at the Erez security checkpoint to the Israel News Agency.

Israel Col. Nir Press, head of the Israel Coordination and Liaison Administration to the Gaza Strip, addressed the issue of UNRWA fuel shortages today (Thursday, 24 April 2008) stating that: “After receiving the update and application from UNRWA regarding depletion of fuel required by the organization, Israel yesterday coordinated with UNRWA, the Palestinian fuel organization and the
Palestinian fuel administration, the transfer of fuel required by UNRWA.

The said transfer arrangement consisted of 100,000 liters of diesel fuel and an additional 20,000 liters gasoline and was to be drawn from the fuel deposits located in the Palestinian fuel depot at Nahal Oz. The deposits accumulated at the Palestinian fuel depot amount to one million liters. The Palestinians have not withdrawn any fuel during the past month, and are not supplying the fuel necessary for humanitarian and civilian requirements.

In this manner, the Palestinians, led by the Hamas terror organization, are creating shortages, misery and disaster”.

In accordance with the transfer arrangement, the first fuel tanker arrived from the Gaza Strip this afternoon to withdraw fuel for UNRWA. However, tens of thousands of Palestinians blocked one of the main intersections leading to the fuel depot, preventing the entrance of the tanker to the depot and thus preventing the supply of fuel.

It should be noted that Israel is not involved or responsible for occurrences in the Gaza Strip, for vehicular traffic on the highways, or for entrance to the organization’s depot.

Israel has supplied UNRWA with its fuel it requires for current operations during the last few months, and since yesterday has been attempting to assist the organization with the Palestinians, and enable it to withdraw its fuel requirements, as is done with regard to diesel fuel supplied to the power station. Yesterday approximately one million liters were supplied to the power station from Israel, the entire quantity of which reached its destination.

It is the hope of the Israel government that tomorrow the Palestinians will allow the tankers to reach the fuel depot, and supply the UN organizations serving the civilian population in the Gaza Strip.

Unfortunately, we are witnessing once again Hamas attempts to create a crisis situation in the Gaza Strip, on the back of the civilian population, by attacking the Nahal Oz fuel terminal and the Kerem Shalom crossing, and by preventing supply of fuel for humanitarian purposes while attempting to pressurize Israel.

Col. Press called on the Palestinians to draw fuel from the Palestinian depot at Nahal Oz, and to use it for various humanitarian and civilian requirements.

Kfar Blum, Kayaking, Peace And Passover In Israel

Jerusalem ----- April 24, 2008 ....... While the world reads headlines about Jimmy Carter in Ramallah, Israel enemies trying to breath life into an ancient 20 year-old US spy case and Israel suggesting that it will return some of the Golan Heights if Syria ends terrorism, most in Israel are on vacation.

Miles away from the noise of Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Hafia, Israelis are enjoying quiet week long Jewish Passover holiday vacations in the green, rolling hills of northern Israel, the Dead Sea and the dry heat of Eilat. Most businesses and all government offices are closed.

Politics, terrorism and fighting rush hour traffic has been replaced with nature hikes through the Golan Heights, kayaking the Jordan River, family picnics or simply enjoying a cool drink on one of Israel's long, pristine sandy beaches.

"This is our best year yet," says a smiling Dubi Ben Ari, general manager of the Kibbutz Kfar Blum Pastoral Hotel. Kfar Blum is located a few kilometers from Kiryat Shomona near the Lebanon border.

"We have 147 luxury 4-5 star rooms and they are fully packed with tourists from Israel, the US and Europe. Passover (Pesach) is always fully booked here but we are now witnessing an increase from our normal 70 percent occupancy rate before and after the holiday," says Ben Ari.

Passover or Pesach is the one most commonly observed Jewish holidays, even by otherwise non-observant Jews. According to the 1990 National Jewish Population Survey (NJPS), more than 80 percent of Jews have attended a Pesach seder.

Pesach begins on the 15th day of the Jewish month of Nissan. It is the first of the three major festivals with both historical and agricultural significance (the other two are Shavu'ot and Sukkot). Agriculturally, it represents the beginning of the harvest season in Israel, but little attention is paid to this aspect of the holiday. The primary observances of Pesach are related to the Exodus from Egypt after generations of slavery.

The name "Pesach" comes from the Hebrew root Pei-Samekh-Cheit Pei-Samekh-Cheit (in Hebrew), meaning to pass through, to pass over, to exempt or to spare. It refers to the fact that God "passed over" the houses of the Jews when he was slaying the firstborn of Egypt. In English, the holiday is known as Passover. "Pesach" is also the name of the sacrificial offering (a lamb) that was made in the Temple on this holiday.

Dubi has much to smile about.
He is a second generation Israeli, born on Kibbutz Kfar Blum with parents who made Aliya to Israel from England and Austria. Before taking on the position of general manager at the Pastoral Hotel, Ben Ari had served as a Captain in the IDF, head electrician of the Kibbutz, studied international relations at Hebrew University and directed Israel student programs for Americans and Canadians. He is credited for having made the Kibbutz hotel into a success story in his 15 years as manager. Taking it from a guest house with 59 rooms to now heading an expansion effort with the planning of another hotel on Kfar Blum overlooking the waters of the Jordan River.

"This Passover we have a religious group of American and British tourists staying with us. It kind of a natural transition for Anglos to be here given that the Kibbutz was founded in 1943 by the Labor Zionist Habonim youth movement. The founding members of Kfar Blum were primarily from the United Kingdom, South Africa, the United States and the Baltic countries. The kibbutz was named in honor of Leon Blum, the Jewish socialist former Prime Minister of France. We have many volunteers, kibbutz members and guests coming from Holland, France, Russia, Spain, Norway, Sweden, South America, Canada, the United Kingdom and Asia."

Ben Ari speaks of how the Kibbutz hotel has grown much in the same manner Israel has matured in the past 60 years.

"We have a convention center, a spa, an Olympic sized swimming pool, bird watching and even Internet access throughout the hotel. In the last month we just added another 16 luxury rooms, many with Jacuzzis inside. We are proud of what we have achieved and highly optimistic for the future." The Kfar Blum Hotel is owned 90 percent by the Kibbutz and 10 percent by shareholders in the States.

Kfar Blum also benefits by being located in the heart of the green and tranquil Hula Valley, below Kibbutz Ma'ayan Baruch, Kibbutz Dan, Kibbutz Dafna, the Banias waterfalls, Moshav Neve Ativ and the Israel Mount Hermon Ski Resort to her north.

The Jordan River is not only a major source of water for Israel as it runs into the Sea of Galilee, but also provides excitement to over 300,000 visitors who enjoy rafting and kayaking on it.

"Last season was our best," says Guy Yarmak, general manager of the Kayaking, Hiking and Camping Center of Kfar Blum.
"But this season is starting out even ahead of last year, with projections of over 10,000 people using our camping grounds and 30,000 coming to use our mountain climbing and biking facilities. This Passover has been excellent and days to follow look great for tourism."

In addition to the Pastoral Hotel, Kibbutz Kfar Blum has a number of agricultural and industrial enterprises on the land. This Israel Kibbutz also hosts the regional school and is a source of great pride when it comes to Israel basketball. Israel sports star legend Doron Shefer who played for Hapoel Galil Elyon (which is based on Kfar Blum), Hapoel Jerusalem, Maccabi Tel Aviv and the Connecticut Huskies returned to Kfar Blum this year.

Ben Ari is also optimistic for the future regarding increased tourism and peace coming to the north of Israel and to the region.

"During the last Lebanon war we were empty but the major media outlets such as the BBC and CNN found comfort at Kfar Blum. But we are no longer talking of wars. Israel did the job it had to do in defending herself once again from unprovoked attacks by Hezbollah and Iran terrorists in Lebanon," says Ben Ari.

"Those in Damascus and Teheran know very well that if there should ever be another war, their cities will be flattened. Yes, they might get a few missiles off towards Israel but after that they would cease to exist as nations. Because of this deterrent factor, because Syria and Iran know as we do that peace is a far better option than war, we can expect many years of tranquility, commerce and even trade with our Arab neighbors. They know as we do that bread, butter and smiling tourists are far better and healthier than bullets, bombs and tears."

YouTube Video Captures Israel Children In War, Anti Terrorism Exercise

YouTube Video Captures Israel Children In Terrorism War Exercise

By Joel Leyden
Israel News Agency

Jerusalem ----- April 10....... For many years the children of Israel living on the northern and southern borders have died, been injured and have suffered emotionally from Katusha terror rockets from Hezbollah in Lebanon and Qassam missiles from Hamas in Gaza. But now that Iran and Syria have provided thousands of missiles to terror organizations on Israel borders, every child in Israel has become a target.

On April 8, 2008, under the threat of war and terrorism by Iran and Syria, Israel prepared her children in the largest national civilian exercise for emergency situations in Israel's history. Throughout this week, the Israel National Emergency Authority practiced a long series of scenarios, including situations of chemical missiles being fired on Israel communities and rescuing wounded trapped in rubble.

For the first time during the war and terrorism exercise entitled "Turning Point 2," messages were distributed to Israel citizens and instructions were provided through the media.

As part of the Israel Defense Forces Home Front exercise, officials sounded air raid sirens throughout every town and city in Israel. The purpose of the siren was to prepare Israelis for an incoming missile or rocket attack.

Although the loud, wailing sirens sounded in cities and the countryside, Israel authorities provided special attention to the schools.

Children were evacuated to bomb and air raid shelters.

In a YouTube video captured by the Israel News Agency, one can witness hundreds of young children in central Israel sitting against school walls bent over with their hands protecting their heads. Although the teachers tried to provide as much preparation and comfort for the war and terrorism exercise, many children continued to cry, not fully understanding why they were being forced to run into bomb shelters. Many of these children will suffer from post traumatic stress as the result of these war exercises forced upon them by Iran, Syria and the terror groups for which they sponsor.

Child psychologists in Israel suggested that parents speak to their children during these war and terrorism exercises.

"Children need to feel that they can voice their concerns and that parents will help them," said one child psychologist. "For younger children, it may be to simply state that not knowing where they will sleep may be scary, but the parent must reassure the children that they will be fine."

"Focus on the needs of each particular child and remember that children cope very differently than adults. They may be more or less focused or concerned on a continual basis with the sirens and news of the war and terrorism exercise. They may hear some distressing news, go off to play and come back later to ask a series of questions. In the middle of playing, a young child may act out what he just saw in school or on television. Children too, need to be told that it is perfectly normal to cry or feel unhappy, when they are distressed," the psychologist said.

"We must make sure that we continue to treat our children as children and not parentify them - some things are outside their comprehension and the decisions are adult ones that should not include their input. You may find that you need that quiet walk and talk with your preteen or the donut and discussion with your adolescent. Sometimes that extra 5 minutes cuddling at bedtime with your child will give your child that time to share feelings and concerns that will otherwise keep him up all night."

Child psychologists stated: "Provide accurate, honest, truthful, and age appropriate information about Israel, Gaza, Lebanon, Iran, Syria, terrorism and peace. This will enable children to better understand and work through their fears and concerns. Words need to be chosen carefully so that we are clear in the information we provide and so that children understand what we really said."

With media in Israel and Syria carrying news reports of heightened tensions in recent days, Israel Prime Minister Ehud Olmert stated that the exercise was a "routine drill". But not one person saw anything routine about children in central Israel running for their lives as the sirens went off.

"The state of Israel is not intent on any violent confrontation in the north," Olmert said. "On the contrary we have said on more than one occasion that we have an interest in holding peace negotiations with Syria."

"The war exercise was not planned in relation to any current events," the Israel Defense Forces said in a statement. "The aim of the exercise is to prepare the different services and institutes operating in the civilian environment for various emergency situations."

But officials said the major scenario was that of terror missile attacks from Lebanon and Syria on Israel cities. They said the scenario included missiles with chemical warheads.

Two years ago, the terrorist group Hezbollah fired more than 4,000 rockets into Israel during the second Lebanon war. Today, Hezbollah has accumulated over 20,000 rockets. And its leaders have threatened to strike back at Israel for the February killing of terrorist mastermind Imad Mughniyeh.

Today Israel simulated a chemical weapons missile attack on a hospital as it completed its largest ever civil-defense exercise, a military spokesman said.

In the final drill of the five-day exercise, a hospital in the northern Israel city of Afula was evacuated during the simulation of the chemical weapons attack.

The home front maneuver was aimed at preparing Israel for possible attacks involving conventional weapons as well as missiles equipped with chemical or bacteriological warheads.

It also aimed to prepare the country for possible concerted attacks by Syria and its Lebanon Hezbollah terror allies from the north, and the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas from the south.

Today everyone in Israel awoke to radio announcers describing the scenario being practiced for day four of a virtual war. Israel is under missile attack from Hizbullah in Lebanon and from Syria. Kassam rockets and Grad-type Katusha missiles were being launched at Netivot and Ashkelon from Gaza.

The IDF dispatched a statement assuring citizens that the drill has been planned "as part of the IDF 2008 work plan."

Syria and Lebanon are on high alert. Israel army radio reported that while the practice war and terrorism exercises are being held, Hizbullah terrorists and Syria will be deployed and readied for an all-out confrontation. Syria announced today that it will hold an unprecedented exercise to test the readiness of their home front for a possible Israel attack. The drill was announced on state-run Radio Damascus.

The announcement said the drill will take place in all of Syria's provinces and will test the country's readiness and ability to handle natural disasters and other emergencies.

Israel Defense Minister Ehud Barak has said the exercise drew from lessons learned from the 2006 Lebanon war, during which more than 4,000 rockets fired by Hezbollah slammed into northern Israel.

An official inquiry harshly criticized Israel's leadership for failing to protect civilians during the 34 day war which killed more than 160 people in Israel.

"Unfortunately, we live in a country where anything can happen. This just gives the feeling of-so the people can imagine at least what they are supposed to do," said one woman.

Israel hospitals and firefighters also took part in the war exercise, rehearsing for a possible chemical or biological attack.

Even those who didn't take part could learn what to do by watching public service announcements on how to take shelter.

Some of Israel's enemies have warned that the drill is a signal that Israel is about to go to war. But for Israelis, the exercise is one more step to protect themselves from enemies who have shown that they will "wipe Israel off the map."

"We can get into war, and we need to be prepared. So, it's necessary, this drill," a high school boy said. A young girl, age 7, was heard saying: "why does Hezbollah want to murder me and my friends? What did we do wrong?"

The teacher standing next to the child, wiped away a tear from her face. "Because we were born Jewish," she said. "Because we believe in freedom and democracy. Freedom to speak, freedom to vote and freedom to move as we wish. Our enemies in Iran, Syria and Saudi Arabia do not believe in freedoms, only in what their bible the Koran says. And it says that all Jews and Christians are infidels, enemies of the Muslim people that must be destroyed."

The child then asked: "that is what the Nazis wanted to do to the Jews, yes?" The teacher looked at that child and paused for several moments. She then nodded yes as she wiped away yet another tear hoping that the child would not see it.
