Beatles Paul McCartney Israel Concert Success Despite PR Failures

Beatles Paul McCartney Israel Concert Success Despite PR Failures

By Joel Leyden
Israel News Agency

Jerusalem, Israel --- September 26, 2008 ..... He made them smile. All 40,000 fans attending former Beatles Sir Paul McCartney concert last night in Tel Aviv lived a dream. For most, the 150 to 1,500 USD prices McCartney tickets were way too expensive for those in Israel where the average wage is 1,500 per month. But for those lucky few who were able to attend, they were treated to a magical, historical and cultural treat that brought them back to the innocent warmth and sunshine of the 1960's.

Paul McCartney did not have an easy road on his trek to Israel.

In 1965, when Israel did not yet have television and public entertainment consisted mainly of kibbutz songfests, the Beatles were booked for a concert here.

But because of a rivalry between two local Israel producers led to an official government decision to ban the Beatles.

As the Israel government committee said at the time:"The Beatles have an insufficient artistic level and cannot add to the spiritual and cultural life of the youth in Israel."

Then in the late 1970s, McCartney concerts with his post-Beatles band Wings were canceled due to problems with the venues.

In January of this year, the Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent a letter from its London embassy to the two surviving former Beatles, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, asking forgiveness for the "missed opportunity" to have the band that "shaped the minds of a generation, to come to Israel and perform before the young generation in Israel who admired you and continues to admire you." It was an invitation praying that Paul McCartney would help celebrate Israel's 60th anniversary.

And then as dates and places were finally being confirmed for September 2008, Israel cell phone operator Partner backed out of financing the event. In the following hours, the upfront costs for the McCartney concert were taken over by businessman Yakir Sha'ashua and Israel show promoter Dudu Zerzevsky. Sha'ashua owns an aviation company specializing in private jet and helicopter services for VIPs, as well as a real estate company active in Britain, the United States and Russia. For David (Dudu) Zerzevsky is was the realization of a dream for a man who has been producing musical shows in Israel for over 20 years.

Then as the McCartney show was finally confirmed, Islamic clergy in Lebanon threatened Paul McCartney's life declaring that he would be greeted in Israel by suicide bombers.

Syria born Bakri, 48, stated: “I heard today that the pop star Paul McCartney is playing as a part of the celebrations.

“Our enemy’s friend is our enemy. Thus Paul McCartney is the enemy of every Muslim. We have what we call ‘sacrifice’ operatives who will not stand by while he joins in a celebration of their oppression. If he values his life Mr McCartney must not come to Israel. He will not be safe there. The sacrifice operatives will be waiting for him.”

An Israel security analyst responded that : "McCartney is considered an infidel, as all non-Muslims are. As such the penalty is death. Those who attacked the World Trade Center seven years ago in 9/11 were attacking "infidels" in mass and did not even care to consider how many peaceful Muslims would be murdered as they were working with the infidels. What separates McCartney now from the common man, is that he has taken his creative genius one step beyond music. By coming to Israel, Sir Paul McCartney has become an icon for democracy, freedom, peace and liberty. Whatever accomplishments McCartney may have achieved as a Beatle are now small compared to risking his life for the very basic principles of democracy and free speech. The man is truly a hero."

The "Friendship First" concert, as the McCartney Tel Aviv show was labeled, is part of a series of one-off gigs in places where Paul McCartney has never visited before. Recently McCartney performed in Quebec City, Canada, and in the Ukraine for the first time.

McCartney flying on his private jet slipped into Israel in the early hours of September 24 to avoid journalists.
And then again in another act to avoid journalists, McCartney staged a news conference at the Dan Hotel for the morning of September 24. While dozens of journalists and photographers waited hours for McCartney to arrive, they had no idea that Arbel Communications of Tel Aviv, had lied to them about a news conference as McCartney was actually touring both Jerusalem and Bethlehem.

Arbel then fell down a second time, when they abandoned the VIP and press entrance to the Tel Aviv concert at Hayarkon Park.

According to security personnel at the entrance over 40 journalists and TV crews with valid press credentials from North America, Europe and Asia were turned away. Many of these journalists had flown into Israel to cover the McCartney concert.

For McCartney, nothing was more important than delivering his message of peace and unity for Israel and Palestine. According to Dudu Zerzevsky, McCartney was hands on with every detail related to the concert. But McCartney's own PR people in London, had lost control of the public relations. Not knowing which local press were important they retained Arbel Communications in Tel Aviv, an Israel PR firm which knows nothing other than the Hebrew language press and has no experience in international Internet marketing, public relations and Web 2.0.

Stuart Bell, of the Outside Organization, McCartney's PR people in London tried to regain control.
In the end it appears that they were successful in opening the gate for all journalists while Arbel was nowhere in sight. As such the Israel News Agency, which had interviewed the producers of the McCartney show just days prior were unable to record and upload video of the McCartney concert to Google News, YouTube, Facebook, MySpace and several other online channels reaching millions 24/7 worldwide. The INA apologizes to its readers for this account.

Arbel's negligent behavior was typical of Israel PR which for decades has ignored the foreign press. Arbel may know the words The Jerusalem Post, but nothing more than that. Only recently has the Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Israel Ministry of Tourism caught up with modern and effective PR for Israel. But neither of these Ministries were involved with McCartney's concert. If they had been, every foreign journalist carrying an Israel government issued press card would have been invited to cover the McCartney concert with pleasure. And the concert may have sold out more tickets, perhaps up to 70,000.

The steep price of the tickets combined with unprofessional local public relations and a total lack of Internet PR and marketing, seems to be the key reasons the show wasn't sold out. Michael Gould, a local trumpeter who says he played with the Beatles as a studio musician on several albums, including Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, said he would have loved to have gone to the show, but simply didn't have the money. Tickets ranged from about $150 to $1500.

"I really can't afford it," said Gould, 70. He said he was holding out hope that McCartney might invite him, but said it was unlikely since they only briefly crossed paths four decades ago. "He wouldn't know me even if he fell over me," he said. You know how many people he met?"

Paul McCartney took the stage appearing confident and relaxed. McCartney wore a pink shirt and an early-Beatles-style black suit made by his fashion designer daughter Stella, 37. As the master showman that he is, he made immediate contact with the audience who were sitting on white plastic bleachers and on the grass. Everyone had an excellent vantage point to the show and McCartney made sure of that. McCartney wanted every fan to enjoy both the sound and visuals at their very best. He also made sure that there was no price gauging on the sale of water, that there were enough portable toilets in the field and that public transportation would still be available at the end of the concert.

The first few tunes McCartney sang did little to wake up a quiet and staring audience but once McCartney started to sing early Beatles tunes such as "Yesterday" and "Hey Jude" the crowd began to roar. Although off note from time to time, McCartney continued with the famous "Imagine" tune for which he and John Lennon penned. Then the audience was treated to a fireworks spectacle which was in synch with the song "Live and Let Die."

Both McCartney and the Israel crowd understood that his aging 60's voice was not the reason why either were there. Though McCartney was in tune most of the time, it was the mere presence of this legendary god of music and peace that made the night sparkle.

Singing "Give Peace a Chance," McCartney stopped and let the audience sing the chorus alone. "Here tonight you sang it, you want it," the 66-year-old artist said. He dedicated the song to his fellow Beatle, John Lennon, who was assassinated in New York in 1980.

McCartney, who greeted the crowd with a mixture of English and Hebrew, wishing them "shana tova," happy new year, added "Ramadan kareem" in Arabic, a greeting to Muslims, who are now celebrating their holy month.

A small group of Palestinians had urged McCartney to cancel the show, saying it was supporting the Israel occupation of the West Bank.

During a visit to the biblical town of Bethlehem on Wednesday, McCartney brushed off the criticism.

"I get criticized everywhere I go, but I don't listen to them," McCartney said. "I'm bringing a message of peace, and I think that's what the region needs."

Though his current girlfriend, Nancy Shevell, 48, was in attendance, McCartney, 66, dedicated the song "My Love" to his late wife, Linda. He also paid tribute to his late bandmates George Harrison and John Lennon during the concert, which was filled with Beatles music.

McCartney and Shevell (who were together in London last week) took a trip to Bethlehem, where they lit a candle for peace at the Church of the Nativity. McCartney announced, "This candle is for peace for people all round the world – especially Israel and Palestine."

As the McCartney show came to it's end, not one of the 40,000 moved for the exits. McCartney then placed his hands to his head as a father to his children and said that it was time for everyone to go home. To go to sleep. The crowd roared back a loud and cheerful "no."

It was not easy for McCartney nor this loving Jewish audience to call it a day. Both had enjoyed and shared tears together with powerful tunes which reawakened warm and soft memories from days past. Love songs which had been shared by millions of lovers the world over with glasses of wine and slow dances everywhere from Manchester, New York and Paris to Montreal, Tokyo and Melbourne.

Even the gods were with Sir Paul McCartney as 24 hours after the start of his open air show in Tel Aviv, Israel, the first rains of winter are now pouring down on the streets of Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Haifa. Each raindrop could easily represent a tear for the love for which Sir Paul had brought to Israel in a peaceful and humanitarian effort. And as the flowers blossom and the trees once again turn from brown to green one could look up, smile and say that Paul McCartney was responsible for this new life.

Paul McCartney Puts ‘Friendship First’ In Israel

Music Icon Set To Rock Israel 43 Years After Ban Historic ‘Friendship First’ Concert Announced
Hayarkon Park, Tel Aviv, Israel, 25th September 2008

43 years after being banned by the Israeli government, Paul McCartney today announces his ‘Friendship First’ concert in Israel. Following months of feverish speculation the wait is finally over as music’s most revered star announces that he will be playing in Tel Aviv, Israel, on Thursday 25th September 2008, for the first time ever. This is in keeping with a series of special one-off unique shows that Paul has performed this year in places he has never visited before. Israel will finally get the chance to experience a night of music and history Macca-style; the night they have been waiting decades for.

Paul McCartney holds true the key principals of friendship – loyalty and respect – and the ‘Friendship First’ concert is an opportunity for people to celebrate these values whilst having a memorable night of fun and rock n’ roll.

Looking ahead to his first trip to Tel Aviv, Paul Said, “I’ve heard so many great things about Tel Aviv and Israel, but hearing is one thing and experiencing it for yourself is another. We are planning to have a great time and a great evening. We can’t wait to get out there and rock.”

Paul McCartney has nearly visited Israel on two previous occasions. The first was with The Beatles at the height of Beatlemania in the mid 60s, however at the time because Israel was short of foreign currency the promoter was unable to raise sufficient funds. After applying to a government committee for help the promoter’s appeal was declined as it was thought The Beatles might corrupt their youth. Some even believed that artistically The Beatles were not of a high enough standard! The second miss was with Wings in the late 70s, when the shows were cancelled after problems with the venue.

Earlier this year, Israel’s ambassador to Britain, Ron Prosor, apologised to The Beatles during a trip to Liverpool for the ‘misunderstanding’. In a letter he wrote: “There is no doubt that it was a great missed opportunity to prevent people like you, who shaped the minds of the generation, to come to Israel and perform.”

2008 has already seen Paul McCartney play a number of special one off concerts, whilst making international headlines and taking him to places he’s never been before. In June he received a hero’s welcome as he rocked the city of Liverpool when he played at Anfield Stadium as part of the city’s celebrations for the European Capital Of Culture. A couple of weeks later and Paul performed a spectacular free show, the ‘Independence Concert’, to over 350,000 people in Kiev’s Independence Square which was the largest outdoor music event in the history of the Ukraine. July then took Paul to the city of Quebec for yet another huge headline-making event as he performed to 300,000 people in the city’s national park, The Plains Of Abraham, to help celebrate Quebec’s 400th anniversary. Paul also found the time (only just though!) to join Billy Joel on stage for the ‘Last Play At Shea’ show in July, marking the last show ever at New York’s famous Shea Stadium. The Beatles were the first band to perform at Shea Stadium in 1965, which went down in history as the first ever stadium rock show. Speaking after his appearance at Shea, Paul commented, “It was great to complete the circle, starting there with The Beatles and then finishing this time round with ‘Let It Be’.”

If you add the attendance figures of the last 3 special shows together, Paul has performed to well over 650,000 people which is the equivalent of filling London’s O2 Arena over 36 times.

Paul McCartney Shares Peace Hope For Israel

Paul McCartney in Peace Hope for Israel

Former Beatles member Sir Paul McCartney believes his controversial concert in Israel could spread peace in the region.

The Beatles were famously banned from performing in the country 43 years ago.

Sir Paul, 66, is giving his first concert in Israel on Thursday, despite reports that his children are "racked with worry" over apparent death threats made against their father.

The singer said on his website that he hoped his Tel Aviv concert would "reawaken" the idea of peace. He said: "The world knows about the conflicts that have been in that region and I like to think that if I go to a place it becomes evident that my message is a peaceful one and I hope that the idea will spread.

"It often does happen you know - you'll go to a place and it can affect the audience. It reawakens the idea - so that is definitely my message and when I am talking to people, that will be my message and I am sure it is a message shared by a lot of the audience too."

He added: "People ask this question through the years. 'Do you think music can change things?' I think it can. I think it's good for people's souls. I think without music it would be a seriously bad world, we would have more problems.

"Music can help people to just calm them down. I also think it can be very interesting for change. I always cite a John (Lennon) song Give Peace A Chance. If you watch the footage from back then, about a million people outside the White House chanting that song to Nixon inside the White House, I think that had an effect.

"On that occasion, obviously for them to have that song to portray how they were feeling I think was very important. So yes, I think it can change things.

"Songs like We Shall Overcome have been very important for the civil rights movement so yeah, I think music is great and it can make changes."

Israel banned the world's most famous band from performing in Israel in 1965, fearing it might corrupt their youth.

Sir Paul's concert is taking place on September 25th in Tel Aviv.

A large party is being hosted for Sir Paul McCartney the evening before at the Dancing Camel Brewery in Tel Aviv. Tickets are still available.

Next-Generation Sex Gets Its Smiles From Web 2.0

Next-Generation Sex Gets Its Smiles From Web 2.0

Commentary by Regina Lynn
Wired.com

(Editor's note: Links in this story that are not safe for work are marked NSFW.)

For many people, any type of sex or nudity with sexual intent counts as "porn" if you do it online.

That's a lesson I learned a few months ago, after writing that porn is scrambling to catch up with Web 2.0, not driving it. Prior to that column, I'd been thinking of "porn" as "the porn industry" -- sexual content produced by people with the intention of making money.

Couples recording themselves at home and uploading the video simply to share it with other people for fun don't qualify as porn, in my view. Neither do the platforms developed to provide those couples with a space to play, even though the technology was obviously produced with the intent of making money.

I don't even consider cam girls -- women who perform sexually over the internet for pay -- porn, although now I know that almost everyone else does. Yet those women perfected the art of adult social networking long before the slick tools of Flickr, Twitter, Facebook and YouTube came out.

(The good ones did, anyway; the rest didn't last. Contrary to popular belief, exposing your boobies on the internet is not a foolproof pathway to wealth. Particularly not now, when everyone and all her girlfriends are doing it, sometimes in the same picture.)

In my mind, what cam girls do, and what millions of adults do in cam rooms and social networking sites, is a form of sex. Porn, on the other hand, is a form of sexual entertainment.

But if I've learned anything from writing Sex Drive over the years, it's this: Technology constantly challenges us to examine how we think, and how we feel, about sexuality. How we adapt technology for sex and sex for technology gives us a window into our assumptions, our clichés, our wishful thinking, our fears and our behavior.

As our technology evolves, so does our sexuality. Cam girls bridge sex, porn and entertainment, creating a new hybrid sexual experience I don't have a name for yet. So do Web 2.0 services like Pornhub (NSFW) and XTube (NSFW), which organize an online content orgy of everything from homegrown exhibitionists to slick professional scenes.

Cam girls provide way too much interaction to be simply "porn," but their shows aren't exactly "sex" by our old cultural definition. It's not even simply entertainment for many. These women offer a combination of intimacy and distance, a steady, long-term relationship that requires from the fan only a tiny fraction of the work and emotional risk of a relationship between peers.

The difference between that and "adult social networking" is that for the cam girl, it's not just a creative outlet -- it's a business. It's like the difference between doodling on sticky notes and launching Savage Chickens. Once you go pro, you're answerable to your fans, even if you feel bloated.

User-generated porn platforms foster relationships through ratings, user profiles, discussion groups, comments and notifications ("Regina has uploaded a new video!"). XTube even has a wiki (NSFW) covering topics like sexual health, privacy and unusual sex positions.

Is that porn, in the traditional sense? No. But maybe it's porn now. Maybe it's what porn is evolving into, and driving what the web is evolving into.

And in that case, yes, porn is right there at the forefront of the next iteration of web technology. Right up there with Amazon.com, which has all the nifty Web 2.0 tools and sells sex toys and porn DVDs, even though it would never be classified as an adult site.

I do know one thing. This tech-driven convergence of porn and sexual interaction forces us to take a new look at our social beliefs about sex -- what it is and where it belongs.

If I'm married and spend every Tuesday at Seska Lee's webcam show (NSFW), am I enjoying some downtime with porn or do I have a virtual girlfriend? Does her practice of blending our chat room into her lovemaking with her husband make me a swinger? If I develop a strong attachment or even fall in love with her, or them, or him, am I polyamorous? Is it closer to a relationship or to a lap dance? Or is it just a movie scene I happen to see being filmed?

These kinds of questions weren't being asked a decade ago. But the argument I got when I used the word "porn" to mean "studio-produced porn," rather than including the full range of Web 2.0 activities people do with sex and sexual content, showed me just how much things have changed, especially in the past five years.

Maybe it means that the porn industry will surge forward and regain its place as de facto leader of the next iteration of the web. But I am hoping it stays further back in the pack. I'm much more interested in what you all come up with next year, and the year after that, and how we will evolve sexually right along with it.

Hey, I don't make the porn -- I'll be over here playing with teh sex. But if technology keeps going down its current path, we'll all probably end up in the same place sooner rather than later.

Then we won't have to raise our voices to argue about what is porn, what is sex and whether it even matters anymore.

James Allen Silver Jewelry Website Becomes Overloaded With Buyers

James Allen Silver Jewelry Website Becomes Overloaded With Buyers

JamesAllen.com, which has sold over 20,000 high quality diamond engagement rings on-line in the past 10 years, is now witnessing an abundance of traffic and sales to their silver jewelry Web pages.

Featuring dozens of beautiful and creative styles, James Allen Silver Jewelry is highlighting their Hot Diamonds collection.

Hot Diamonds is one such designing team producing some of the most sought after sterling silver jewelry of our time. Don`t let the name fool you, Hot Diamonds does feature at least one small brilliant cut diamond in every silver jewelry piece, but the accent is just as much on the metal as it is on the precious gemstones.

You can find earrings, bangles, bracelets, pendants, necklaces, and rings featuring contoured shapes and fluid lines with a contemporary twist. And the savings are great.

On-line sales of diamonds and silver offer the same high quality as going into a brick and mortars store. But because there is very little overhead - no paying of rent, electricity, city taxes and a reduced amount of employees, one can find the same diamond engagement rings or pieces of sterling silver jewelry at fifty percent off. And many of these sites, such as JamesAllen.com have been reviewed and authorized by both the diamond and silver industries.

JamesAllen.com recently needed to hire more customer service employees to handle the 24 / 7 on-line demand for both diamond and silver jewelry from their wide and creative collection.

James Allen offers a beautiful and unique collection called Hot Diamonds. Hot Diamonds silver jewelry is part of a wider jewelry style line with such names as “just add love” or “back to nature” and “moonstruck” among others to captivate the imagination of buyers.

For instance, the “just add love” line features modern and whimsical hearts and stars, an inviting style prized by young adult buyers. The “after hours” line represents the designers` evening wear collection, just perfect for a night out on the town for varying levels of formality.

Why should you choose sterling silver jewelry?

James Allen.com
states that if you researched the properties of silver you`d quickly realize how soft silver is by itself. Sterling silver is made up of 92.5 percent silver with the remaining 7.5 percent copper or some other metal. That is why you`ll find silver flatware pieces, even jewelry, well over a century old in excellent condition: durable sterling silver is one metal that can stand the test of time.

If you were to choose earrings made of virtually pure silver, you`d risk having them break in short order. Always buy jewelry with an eye to have it last to ensure that your investment is worthwhile and can retain its look.

A big trend for sterling silver jewelry fans is to visit estate sales to see what silver jewelry buys can be had. If you`re a fan of antiques, you`ll find the best buys at these types of sales, particularly those managed directly by the family. When an auctioneer or estate planner is brought in, prices are often marked up to cover their costs much as an antique retailer would have to charge more to cover her overhead.

For new sterling silver, your options are quite broad from flea markets to mall jewelry stores to online merchants. At flea markets you risk dealing with someone who may not be able to vouch that the earrings or pendant you want to purchase are, in fact, sterling silver. With a mall jewelry store, the merchant can attest to what they`re selling, while offering a guarantee.

If shopping online, make sure that you deal with a reputable jeweler such as James Allen. You could save a lot of money if you find the right retailer as Internet stores typically have a much lower overhead and savings are passed on to you in the form of lower prices. One can also secure valuable advice and tips for buying silver jewelry from the James Allen Silver Jewelry Internet blog.

Regardless of where you purchase your sterling silver jewelry, you`re buying classical jewelry with a strong, contemporary appeal. Whether choosing antique or contemporary sterling silver earrings, pendants, bangles, rings, necklaces, or bracelets you can reap the satisfaction of finding and wearing one of the finest of all metals.

Founded in 1998 by James Allen Schultz and his wife Michele Sigler, the idea behind James Allen was simple: Offer the world's most beautiful diamond engagement rings and silver jewelry, all at an extraordinary value. While the idea of selling fine engagement diamond and silver jewelry over the Internet seemed strange back in 1998, James Allen has now grown to be one of the largest and most successful of all online diamond retailers.

JamesAllen.com is regularly featured in trade magazines such as "National Jeweler" and has been profiled by such famous publications as "The Washington Post" Newspaper, "NBC News", "US News & World Report" and "National Public Radio".

Beatles Sir Paul McCartney Defies Islamic Terror Suicide Bombers In Israel

Beatles Sir Paul McCartney Defies Islamic Suicide Bombers In Israel

By Joel Leyden
Israel News Agency
http://www.israelnewsagency.com/sirpaulmccartneyisraelislamicdeaththreatsbeatlestelavivmusicjohnlennonconcertticketsterrorismpeacedemocracyidfmossad48091408.html

Jerusalem, Israel --- September 14, 2008 ..... In what is truly becoming a Magical Mystery Tour, former Beatles member Sir Paul McCartney has been threatened with death by Islamic terrorists if he comes to Israel for a concert.

Dennis Rice, a freelance journalist and reporter for the Sunday Express has been in contact with the Israel News Agency and other Israel news and governmental organizations seeking for and finding the answer to "Has McCartney been threatened if he plays in Israel?"
Rice's investigative journalism ran deep as he found that Islamic terrorist Omar Bakri claiming the former Beatle’s decision to take part in Israel's 60th anniversary celebrations had made him an enemy of all Muslims.

Sources close to McCartney said Sir Paul was shocked but refused to be intimidated.

The celebrated rock star will arrive in Israel as part of a world tour and will give a single concert at Tel Aviv's Park Hayarkon on September 25.

In an interview with Israel media yesterday McCartney told Israel TV Channel 2: “I was approached by different groups and political bodies who asked me not to come here. I refused. I do what I think and I have many friends who support Israel.”

Israel security analysts believe that the threats on McCartney's life are real, but pose no danger to McCartney while he is in Israel.

"McCartney will enjoy the same extensive security protection as the Israel Prime Minister, President and other heads of state who visit Israel," the analyst said. "Israel is respected for having the world's best security organizations, as both their real time intelligence and field activities are at the highest alert level 24 hours a day. We don't train, we are acting on and neutralizing terrorists threats every hour. What McCartney needs to be concerned about is his security upon leaving Israel. His rides on buses and in subways will now need to have increased security personnel in place. Islamic terrorists are not lone reporters and photographers who stalk, they also act on intelligence gathered from their own networks."

The security analyst states that McCartney is no different than any other Christian or Jew in the free world.

"McCartney is considered an infidel, as all non-Muslims are.

Syria born Bakri, 48, stated: “I heard today that the pop star Paul McCartney is playing as a part of the celebrations.

“Instead of supporting the people of Palestine in their suffering, McCartney is celebrating the atrocities of the occupiers. The one who is under occupation is supposed to be getting the help. And so I believe for Paul McCartney, what he is doing really is creating more enemies than friends.” Bakri stated: “Our enemy’s friend is our enemy.

A spokesman for Sir Paul declined to comment on the threat, saying: “Paul’s Friendship First concert is about his music. Paul’s is a message of peace.”

But not all Muslims want death for McCartney.

Omar Barghouti, of The Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel, described the threat as “deplorable”.

In an interview on Israel TV Channel Two, Sir Paul McCartney described his experience as a Beatle and his feelings about the upcoming Friendship First tour to Israel.

When asked if he knew why the Beatles were not allowed to come to Israel the first time back in 1965 and that the Beatles were seen by the Israel government as a bad influence on our youth, McCartney responded: "no, I didn't know that (laughter)... and the only other place we were forbidden to perform was Russia! But I'm coming now."

Last night, McCartney came close to playing in Russia as he performed his first concert in the Ukraine, playing to tens of thousands in the capital Kiev.

Israel Channel Two asked how do you choose what music to perform? Are you going to play a lot of Beatles songs in Israel? "Well, I have a great band; what we do is write down all the tunes we want to perform - some Beatles songs, some Wings songs, some other songs - things we think the audience wants to hear, and I like to throw in a few different songs, something unusual, to give the set an edge," said McCartney. "Then, we play through everything and eliminate those songs we just don't play well or don't seem to fit. It's really that simple."

McCartney was asked why did the Beatles break up when they did?
"Well, there were many reasons really," McCartney said. "We were having internal business problems. We brought in a business manager from New York; I didn't like what he wanted to do, and we found ourselves arguing within the group. It was rather like a bad marriage. So, we decided that after all, we had really come full circle - in fact, the last album cover was shot in the same place as the first, so we really had come full circle - and that this was a good time to split up. Once we decided, we all relaxed and everything was then better between us."

When asked that after all these years, songs, concerts aren't you tired of it? Don't get you bored?
McCartney responded with a smile: "no, this is what I love; I love writing music; I love bringing people together; I love performing; this is my passion; I love to get the feedback from the audience."

The Israel audience might be very well deterred by the expensive ticket prices, ranging from NIS 460-500 (150 USD) for standing room to NIS 1,400 -1,600 (400 USD) for seats near the stage. The average wage in Israel is 1,500 USD per month, placing these McCartney tickets far out of reach for the ordinary Israeli. But now that McCartney is risking his life to play in Israel, many Israelis may sacrifice a few meals just to hear a man as fearless as they are.

All the same Tel Aviv's Park Hayarkon has a capacity for a crowd of 70,000 people and ticket sales may have reached their saturation point for the elite at about 25,000 people.

The up-front costs for the McCartney concert will be paid by businessman Yakir Sha'ashua, 37, who stepped in after Israel cell phone operator Partner backed out of financing the event. Sha'ashua owns an aviation company specializing in private jet and helicopter services for VIPs, as well as a real estate company active in Britain, the United States and Russia.

As witnessed in a Web 2.0 Facebook group entitled Israel Welcomes Beatles Sir James Paul McCartney To Tel Aviv many Israelis are now begging Sha'ashua, McCartney's manager Barry Marshall and Israel show promoter Dudu Zerzevsky to reduce the cost of the concert tickets.

The Paul McCartney show is expected to cost upward of $8 million to produce and will require a 100-person production team, extensive security, an extra-large stage, an expansive sound system, and two vegetarian kitchens at the show's location.

The producers of the single appearance by Paul McCartney in Israel expect to break even with a take of 10 million NIS on the event. These numbers kick in before any sponsorships take place. The businessman backing the event, Yakir Sha'ashua believes it will attract a capacity crowd to Tel Aviv's Hayarkon Park, which can accommodate up to 70,000 people.

The Israel business newspaper Globes states that the cost of bringing Beatle Paul McCartney to Israel will reach over NIS 30 million, half of which will go to McCartney and his promoters, while the other half will cover production costs. Price now stand at NIS 1,500 for a front row ticket and NIS 500 for just a seat on grass in the park. The promoters will have to sell 50,000 tickets only to cover the cost. This is the initial quantity which will go on sale at the Leean ticket offices.

Israel Channel Two asked Sir Paul that now that you are coming to play in Israel, there are those who are protesting your appearance here. What do you say about that?
"You know, finally, you just have to listen to your heart and do what you think is right," said McCartney." "I'm coming to play music and to bring people together, at least that's my intention. I just want to make people happy."

Will the Islamic threats on McCartney's life and those going to the concert deter Israelis from enjoying his music?

Israelis live with terror threats every day. We serve in the Israel Defense Forces. We volunteer for police duty. We have security guards checking bags and profiling people at the entrances of our shopping centers, restaurants and inside our buses. If anything will keep an Israeli away it will be the expensive price ticket for the concert.

Sir Paul McCartney, who enjoys meeting ordinary people, riding on buses and tubes with them, should give the order to reduce the ticket price. Sir Paul and his good friends John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr have now transcended their legends as music's greatest, most creative producers.
Paul McCartney now stands tall as a respected humanitarian representing peace and friendship. One should be not be surprised if members of the Palestinian Authority who have also placed their lives at risk confronting Iran backed Hamas, Islamic Jihad and Hezbollah will be attending the concert.

Sir Paul, who has wealth and comfort, should now truly place his "Pipes of Peace" music before entrance sales and garner the largest possible physical audience he can gather.
McCartney's audience on September 25 will not be limited to just those in Israel, but to every peace seeking activist and supporters of democracy and free speech around the world.

If Sir Paul wants to get his message out of "Peace In The Neighbourhood" and "Helping each other out" he needs to sit next to more ordinary people. Both Israelis and Palestinians. In doing so, he could reinforce and leap well beyond the historic "Imagine" peace lyrics of John Lennon.

And brave Paul has nothing to fear.
The Mossad, the Shabak and MI5 are watching his back.

Was Israel Behind The 9/11 Terror Attacks?

Was Israel Behind 9/11?

By Joel Leyden
Israel News Agency

Jerusalem, Israel --- September 11, 2008 ..... I can still smell death in the air. I can still hear the sound of jackhammers piercing the silence at Ground Zero. I can still hear police and soldiers weeping. I can still see the many memorial candles lighting up the streets of Manhattan. I can still see thousands of people walking up Second and Third Avenues covered in white dust as they made their way to the bridges to escape a raped New York. I can still see the hundreds of waving posters taped onto trees and light poles crying for people to contact them to find lost relatives and friends who were murdered in the 9/11 terror attacks.

Yes, I was at Ground Zero in New York hours after the 9/11 attack. It was a scene of devastation which defies definition. No one could have any idea how badly New York, Washington or the US was struck that day, unless you were there.

As one who had worked in the World Trade Center for several years, it had even deeper meaning.
The restaurant on the top of World Trade Center tower number one, Windows on the World was a favorite and inspirational place of mine to enjoy breakfast. All those who had served me, smiled and wished me a "good morning" were either burned alive or jumped to their untimely deaths.

I bought the last sweater in a store that had an American flag on it.
We all wore American flags from the night of September 11. We all stared in silence watching news coverage on TV, or as journalists walked into a cloud of gas and smoke at Ground Zero. Police, firemen and national guard troops also stared into space. There was no talk. No laughter. No emotion. Perhaps a very quiet anger. Only silence as rescue teams searched for signs of life in that man made hell.

Yet, today, seven years after those barbaric 9/11 attacks, these direct assaults on democracy, freedom and liberty, there are those who actually believe that Israel and even the United States were behind the 9/11 terror attacks.

One anti-Israel Web site states: "As long as 60 Israel citizens are being held – under conditions of great secrecy – in connection with the 9/11 investigation, it is no longer tenable to dismiss the possibility of an Israel angle in this story."

This piece of racist, hateful incitement goes on to describe the Israel detainees as having served in special anti-terrorist and intelligence units.

"Something tells me these guys are no ordinary tourists," I averred. While "we just don't know" because of the secrecy surrounding the government's actions, I thought that the whole point of the Ashcroft round-up was not only to sweep up potential suspects but to gather information that could lead them to Al Qaeda's underground network in the US. Therefore, I theorized, It could be that the Israelis, or at least some of them, fall into this category: while not being directly involved, maybe they know something. Nothing else could account for the government's 'special interest."

Hey, I was also detained at Ground Zero. Does that also make me a member of the Mossad?

And let's address the thousands of Arabs who were detained and arrested immediately after the 9/11 terror attacks - they must also be from Israel. And yes, working for the Mossad!

In a survey polling those from London's and Paris Muslim populations to Pakistan and Jordan, The New York Times found that while most acknowledge that those who executed the 9/11 attacks were Arabs, the brains behind the devastating 9/11 terror attack were from Israel or America.

"What happened in Iraq confirms that 9/11 has nothing to do with bin Laden or Al Qaeda," said one Egypt respondent who insisted that the terrorist attacks on the US clearly served Israel interests.

Others said the 9/11 attacks had better served the US agenda of controlling the world's resources, and so must have been masterminded by the White House.

"I think the US organized this so that they had an excuse to invade Iraq for the oil," said a Syrian engineer working in the United Arab Emirates.

More than 50 per cent of people reject the official belief that the attacks on the World Trade Centre on September 11, 2001, were carried out by al-Qaeda, a new survey has revealed.

The findings, released on Wednesday, suggest that the official version of events, that the 9/11 attacks, which murdered more than 2,900 people and sparked the US so-called "war on terror", were carried out by al-Qaeda, is still a long way from being generally accepted.

Only 46 per cent of respondents named al-Qaeda, while 25 per cent said they did not know and 15 per cent said the US government was behind the attacks.

Steven Kull, the director of WorldPublicOpinion.org, which carried out the survey, told an Arab newspaper: "Broadly what this says is that there is a lack of confidence with the United States and so people mistrust the narrative the US puts forward."

Officially, Arab hijackers took control of four passenger aircraft in the September 11 attacks. Two of the airplanes crashed into the World Trade Center in New York. The majestic "Twin Towers" collapsed in a cloud of smoke and fire shortly afterwards, bringing down two other buildings nearby. The third aircraft hit the Pentagon while the fourth is said to have crashed in a field in Pennsylvania.

Kull's organization asked more than 16,000 people world wide: "Who do you think was behind the 9/11 attacks?"

The poll states that while a substantial number of those polled believed the US government was in some way behind the attacks, seven per cent point blame Israel.

Of the countries surveyed, Egypt and Jordan had the highest percentages of people who believed Israel was behind the attack, polling 43 and 31 per cent respectively. Nineteen per cent of those polled in the Palestinian territories claimed Israel was in some way responsible.

"In Muslim countries - where we've carried out a number of focus groups - it's clear there is a feeling that the US had some kind of motivation, such as invading Iraq," Kull said.

What do these polls really say?
It states that Arab propaganda to create a divide and conquer effect between Israel and the US has really been effective. It states that Israel has not done enough to counter such perverted opinions.
But then again, who in Jerusalem, Israel would even want to comment on these accusations, adding even more attention to them?

For one, I do.
Accusations do not disappear by simply ignoring them.

I will cite just three very basic examples.

The first is an Israel company called Zim Shipping.
Zim, which is the merchant marine fleet of the State of Israel, had offices in the World Trade Center.

They moved offices a few months prior to the 9/11 terror attacks, a cost reducing plan which was decided years before they moved to another state. But Zim left behind a small office. That office contained computer equipment which tracked each and every Zim ship around the world.

Why would the State of Israel want to destroy its own tracking system and leave these ships vulnerable for hours as a result of attacking the World Trade Center?

Second, Israel receives billions of dollars in aid from the US for serving as the only democratic state in the Middle East. Why would Israel care to jeopardize this critical humanitarian and military aid?

Lastly, al-Qaeda terrorists have fully accepted responsibility both in documented print and video declarations.
If anyone should truly be upset that Israel is said to have attacked the US, it must be al-Qaeda.

The US and Israel are the very best of friends. They share common democratic values, freedoms and goals. These two great nations would never allow a transparent and hateful game of divide and conquer to take place.

The ADL, even points out on their Web site that "coinciding with the seventh anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, a group of U.S. law enforcement professionals is in Israel, where they are learning advanced counterterrorism strategies from their Israeli counterparts."

The Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913, is the world's leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice and bigotry.

The ADL states that a delegation of more than a dozen chiefs of police from major cities across the United States is presently visiting Israel as part of weeklong mission organized by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL).

"The program brings the U.S. law enforcement officers into contact with Israeli law enforcement and security officers and terrorism experts to learn about Israel's strategies to prevent terror attacks. They see firsthand how Israeli emergency officials and responders prepare for terrorist attacks in a nation that can never let down its guard," says the ADL.

"There is a lot to learn from Israel's approach to countering terrorism, and we believe that it is a wonderful opportunity for police chiefs from the United States to understand how Israel stands up to the threat everyday," said Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director. "The lesson of 9/11 is that we can never let down our guard, and that police and others in the law enforcement community must have the tools of the trade and the knowledge of what strategies are available out there to help deter the threat of terrorism."

Why would the US be cooperating with Israel in anti-terrorism activities if Israel was even remotely involved in the 9/11 terror attacks?

Were there members of Israel's elite intelligence organizations in the United States at the time of the 9/11 attacks. I truly hope so. As members of the Mossad and other Israel security agencies are working in almost every nation throughout the world. That does not mean "spying" on those nations. It simply states that the Mossad works with and for other nations in fighting Islamic terrorism and Islamic apartheid.

For me, I shall never forget 9/11.

It was the most traumatic experience of my short life. What I saw, smell and felt could never be fully articulated. Even my brief detention by the NYPD and the FBI at Ground Zero has left many scars.

I was there to report for the Israel News Agency, the Jerusalem Post and Israel TV and Israel Radio English news. And even though I had NYPD press credentials, orders from Washington remained in effect to detain anyone from a Mid East country found to be in the area of Ground Zero.

I was quite upset by both NYPD and the FBI for this detention and the very illegal searches which took place. They went through my wallet, my day pack and even took my film without my consent. But I did not complain to the ACLU.

I had nothing to hide. In fact, I cooperated with both the FBI and NYPD fully and they released me after 6 hours. The following morning I spoke with senior governmental Israelis who at that time were working at the Israel Consulate in New York and the Embassy in Washington. They told me that I was not alone in being detained. That many Israelis were actually arrested. They had even suggested that I go to the AP and Reuters and illustrate the harassment. My response was simple.

"These are our friends," I said. "They have been hurt and hurt bad. Let it go. Just let it go."

In fact, in retrospect, I am pleased that both NYPD and the FBI detained me and many others.
They were doing their job in protecting the US.
In my book, those who went through my wallet and daypack were heroes, not law enforcement officials who where abusing their powers.

Perhaps the Facebook Web 2.0 group entitled: Never Forgive, Never Forget September 11, 2001 says it best.

"Children, teenagers, adults, the elderly. Lives crushed by Islamofascists who would love to see another one of these atrocious acts carried out. It's fascinating how we have come from being completely united on 9/11 as a country to complete disunity.

We have disturbingly gone from unity against Islamic terrorists to people claiming through moral relativity that terrorists do not even exist and that our own government executed this atrocity.

We have disturbingly gone from praising the average soldier in the military to persecuting them and letting the mainstream media accuse them of torture.

We have disturbingly let air headed celebrities accuse our brave soldiers of being terrorists while more videos continue to appear of our enemies slowing beheading civilians.

We have disturbingly gone from focusing on the heroism of our soldiers to the total victimization of them, causing the public to pity rather than respect them for their sacrifices and the work they do.

We have disturbingly let power grabs and political partisanship get in the way of realizing the larger goal, which is stop individuals from mass murdering civilians in orchestrated terror attacks."

Rather than blame Israel or the US for 9/11, it would be a far better thing to visit a 9/11 Website which lists those who were murdered seven years ago by Islamic terrorists.

Read each and every name.
Pray for their families and those children who had their mothers and fathers taken away from them.

Pray for the brave police and firemen who ran down to Ground Zero to find survivors. Those who lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks and those who worked day and night inhaling toxic smoke as they searched for signs of life in a day that none of us will ever forget.

For those who wish to blame Israel for 9/11, I have only a few words of advice.
Do not forget to blame the Jews for the death of Jesus Christ, the Roman Wars, the death of Cleopatra, the Fire of London, the American Independence and Civil Wars, Pearl Harbor, the Holocaust, the sinking of the Titanic, the Challenger space shuttle crash, the San Francisco earthquake, the Great Depression, the Vietnam War, AIDS and global warming.

It would be truly an injustice to omit those crimes as well.
