Joel Leyden taking fresh bread and danish to nearby shelters.
I make an effort at least twice a week to take fresh food from local bakeries to homeless shelters.
Those who stay at homeless shelters are down on their luck. Many seek employment and can't find anything. Some suffer from age discrimination while others may have emotional problems.
But regardless of the reason why they are in a homeless shelter - they have to eat.
Remember - you could be earning 100,000 dollars one day and the next day - nothing.
Always lend a hand to those in need.
Most bakeries throw away their excess fresh food before closing at night.
Go to the bakery, speak to the manager and let him / her know that you are willing to take their excess food to homeless shelters. They will be more than pleased to give you what they have. In fact, many bakery chains allot 300-500 dollars per day for food for the poor.
Among food producers in the US are Panera and Dunkin Donuts who have programs to distribute food to the poor.
Pick up the food and go directly to the nearest shelter. They will be more than pleased to accept all that you have. Just make sure that it is kept clean and packaged.
Remember - all you need is a car ... and a heart. ;>
