Joel LeydenMarketing and SEO Guru Joel Leyden is reaching out through search engine optimization and social media to help Jews and Christians express their support for the Israel Defense Force and Israeli civilians.

The Facebook forum, "I Support the Israel Defense Forces In Preventing Terror Attacks From Gaza"--created about three hours after the first strikes were made in Gaza--explains Israel's position to the world, Leyden said. "The stickiness makes it a medium that lets people feel, rather than remain passive," he said. "You can put messages in MySpace or Facebook, but it goes nowhere until you drive the content through search engines like Google News. Now you're reaching 60 million people instantly."

The combination of social media and SEO creates the "most powerful voice" to which most people are completely oblivious, Leyden said. Although efforts are still somewhat disorganized, Leyden said he has been approached by the U.S. State Department to educate government officials on how to reach wide audiences with SEO and social media, which he refers to as "Web 2.0."

Crossing international boundaries in a world where the Internet has become a tool to reach people globally also requires marketers to remain sensitive to other cultures and how people respond to campaigns.

For marketers, the key benefit of social media marketing is connecting with as many people as possible, which is Leyden's approach. Citing a survey from Marketing Executives Networking Group, research firm eMarketer said that 85.4% of survey participants noted customer engagement as the main benefit of social media marketing, followed by direct customer communications, at 65%; speedy feedback/ results, at 59.9%; and learning customer preferences, at 59.1%. Brand-building and reach fell much lower on the list, at 48.2% and 37.2% of respondents, respectively.

Leyden, which owns the Israel News Agency, said his Facebook page pledges support for brave men and women in the Israel Defense Forces who by air, water and ground protect Israel's democracy and sovereign borders. The site's friend count quickly climbed from 3,232 members on Dec. 28 at 9 P.M. EST to nearly 17,000 members on midday on Dec. 30. A link to a video on Google's YouTube also provides insight as to why the Israel Defense Forces confront Islamic terrorists in Gaza.

It's not "hasbara," which means "to explain or PR spin," Leyden said. "It's about using social media and SEO to get the facts out. Israel lacks professional manpower and the budget. We put the money into weapons to defend ourselves, but public opinion has an influence on many lives."

As war rages in the Gaza Strip, a parallel stream of cyber combat grinds on in perhaps today’s most populated Web forum and networking hub, Facebook.com.
Two hours after the first Israel air strikes against Hamas on Saturday, American-Israeli public relations leader and Israel Defense Force veteran Joel Leyden created a Facebook “group” titled “I Support the Israel Defense Forces In Preventing Terror Attacks From Gaza.”

By Monday afternoon, the group had 7,300 members.

Opposition Facebook groups that call for an end to the Israeli shelling in Gaza are also growing in numbers.

“Public opinion has a direct affect on lives on the ground and a direct affect on the morale of Israel’s soldiers,” Leyden said. “It also has a direct affect on the
morale of the citizens and on our government leaders as well. [Israel is] facing a deluge, a tidal wave of criticism, for defending our very basic right to exist.”

In addition to using Facebook, Leyden employs Google News and the video-sharing mechanism YouTube. Only through such mass media barrages can Israel’s supporters transform public opinion and put down the voices of their opponents, such as the hundreds of anti-Israel protestors who gathered at Rockefeller Center on Sunday, according to Leyden.
Other organizations, such as The Jewish Internet Defense Force, are also organizing Facebook counter-protests and are launching rallies in cities worldwide.

For Leyden, Facebook is certainly his most “potent” outreach tool.
“Facebook is the largest social networking Web site,” he said. “Its reach is the most powerful of any other medium in the world today.”

In Leyden’s support group for the IDF, discussions range from questioning “what we are fighting for” in Operation Cast Lead, the IDF’s name for the Gaza operation, to addressing whether or not President-Elect Barack Obama will support Israel in its continued fight. Through public “wall posts” on the group’s page, strangers write each other multi-paragraph-long essays with their heated opinions, knowing that they must remain reasonably polite in order to maintain their Facebook accounts.

On Monday afternoon, one member called another a “stinky Arab” and another commenter called the Jews “heartless kill[ers],” who “love blood.”

Though unsophisticated jibes like these are exceptions among the chains of educated conversation, nearly all of the discussions seethe with anger, coming from Israeli, Palestinian, American and countless other perspectives worldwide.

“This room is more dangerous than anything I have ever done in the IDF,” Leyden said.

Facebook Group Created Supporting Israel Defense Forces IDF
Action Against Gaza Terrorism

Jerusalem --- December 28, 2008...... Jews and Christians from around the world are joining a Facebook community forum to express their support for the men and women of the Israel Defense Forces in their fight to counter terrorism against innocent civilians in Israel from Gaza.

The Facebook group is located at: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=69810300128

Facebook is the largest Web 2.0 social networking Website on the Net, ranking as the fifth largest Website in the world with over 140 million active users.

The pro-Israel, pro-democracy and anti-terrorism site named: "I Support the Israel Defense Forces In Preventing Terror Attacks From Gaza" was created by Internet journalist, marketing, PR and SEO pioneer Joel Leyden.

The Facebook site states: "Responding to unprovoked terror rocket attacks from Hamas terrorists in Gaza against Israeli civilian populations, the Israel Defense Forces has launched a massive counter attack. This Facebook forum supports the brave men and women in the Israel Defense Forces who by air, water and ground protect Israel's democracy and sovereign borders.

The Hamas government leaders and operatives, which activate terror from within civilian population centers, are the sole bearers of responsibility for Israel's military response. This response is crucial for preserving Israel's security interests.

The IDF Spokesperson states that anyone sponsoring terror, hosting terror in his house, housing terror in his basement and sending his wives and children to serve as human shields - is considered a terrorist.

The IDF will continue its activity against terror activities according to operational assessments held by the Chief of the General Staff. The IDF is ready to widen and deepen its activity against all terror organizations in the Gaza Strip, as long as it is necessary.

In addition, the Israel IDF Homefront Command and emergency authorities, have taken all necessary measures for preparing the civilian population.

The group is open 24/7 as public opinion directly affects life on the ground. Please forward this Facebook room to your family, friends and the media. Let them know that Israel wants peace but will defend herself when attacked."

Since 11:30 Saturday morning, the IDF attacked dozens of targets affiliated with the Hamas terror organization in the Gaza Strip. The targets included command centers, training camps, Hamas installations, rocket manufacturing facilities and storage warehouses. The vast majority of the casualties are terror operatives.

A total of 110 rockets and mortar shells were fired at the western Negev on Saturday, including a Katyusha rocket which exploded 27 kilometers from the Gaza border.

Netivot resident Bebert Vakhnin was murdered and six other Israelis were wounded in the strikes.

The Israel Air Force bombed over 170 targets in Gaza yesterday, killing more than 230 Palestinians, as Israel launched "Operation Cast Lead," aimed at putting a stop to Hamas rocket attacks against the South.

In two waves, over 100 fighter jets and attack helicopters dropped dozens of smart bombs and hundreds of tons of explosives on Hamas training camps, headquarters, weapons storehouses, underground missile silos and command-and-control centers scattered throughout the Gaza Strip.

"The Israel Air Force destroyed over 40 tunnels in less than 5 minutes found on the Gaza side of the border. Those tunnels, we believe, were used for smuggling weapons, explosives and sometimes people," an IDF spokeswoman told the Israel News Agency.

The cabinet on Sunday approved the mobilization of thousands of reservists to support Operation Cast Lead in the Gaza Strip.

The Israel Cabinet approved a call-up of 6,500 IDF reservists today to serve as reinforcements in Gaza ground operations.

Ministers okayed defense officials' request to call-up of 4,500 reserve troops, in addition to 2,000 who were mobilized on Saturday.

The additional troops were to be allocated to the IDF home front as well as the reinforcement of ground forces.

Israel Prime Minister Ehud Olmert told the cabinet that "the perseverance, resolution and patience of Israelis in the home front will determine our ability to attain our goals as we defined them."

"Israel has opened a military campaign in order to restore quiet to the citizens of the South, who have suffered restive times and disruptions to the normalcy needed by any sane person. The home front has become in recent years a target of attacks which overshadow the lives of hundreds of thousands of people," Olmert said.

At a noon press conference broadcast on Egypt television, Egyptian FM Gheit harshly censured Hamas, placing responsibility for the current situation on Hamas.

Israel President Shimon Peres made a special statement today regarding IDF Operation Cast Lead (Israel's attack on the Hamas terror infrastructure in Gaza) and the ongoing Palestinian terror rocket fire on civilian areas in southern Israel:

"It is the first time in the history of Israel that we, the Israelis, cannot understand the motives or the purposes of the ones who are shooting at us. It is the most unreasonable war, done by the most unreasonable warriors.

The story is simple. Israel has left Gaza completely, out of our own free will, at a high cost. In Gaza there is no single Israeli civilian or soldier. They were evacuated from Gaza, our settlements, which called for a very expensive cost. We had to mobilize 45,000 policemen to take out our settlers from there. We spent $2.5 billion. The passages were open. Money was sent to Gaza. We suggested aid in many ways - economically, medically, and otherwise. We were very careful not to make the lives of the civilian people in Gaza difficult. Still I have not heard until now a single person who could explain to us reasonably: why are they firing rockets against Israel? What are the reasons? What is the purpose?"

Peres concluded: "As a nation, we feel united. As a nation, there is wholehearted support for the army, the way they handled it, their restraint, their discrimination, and their responsibility. The great winner can be reason, and reason will lead to peace. We are very serious, in a serious mood. Many of our children are still in the shelters, and we would like them, like the children of Gaza, to breathe fresh air again. This is the story, and whoever asks us to stop shooting - they have to change the address. Let them turn to Hamas and ask them to stop shooting, and there won't be shooting."

Israel President Shimon Peres On Gaza Operation

Israel President Shimon Peres Special Statement on "Operation Cast Lead" and the Ongoing Palestinian Rocket Attacks

This morning, President Shimon Peres made a special statement to the media regarding Operation Cast Lead (Israel's attack on the Hamas terror infrastructure in Gaza) and the ongoing Palestinian rocket fire on civilian areas in southern Israel.

It is the first time in the history of Israel that we, the Israelis, cannot understand the motives or the purposes of the ones who are shooting at us.

We suggested aid in many ways – economically, medically, and otherwise. We were very careful not to make the lives of the civilian people in Gaza difficult. Still I have not heard until now a single person who could explain to us reasonably: why are they firing rockets against Israel? What are the reasons? What is the purpose?

And I must say also that the phenomenon about Israel is the restraint of the army and the unity of the people. The army waited and waited; the Palestinians asked for a ceasefire, and we agreed. They themselves have violated the ceasefire. Again, we didn't know why, until it came to a point where we were left without a choice but to bring an end to it. The operation was planned carefully and the army was true to its principles: namely, to be precise in its targets and careful not to hit civilian life. There is a problem because many of the bombs were stored in private houses. We have contacted the owners of the houses, the people that dwell there, and told them leave it. You can't live with bombs. We have to bring an end to the source of the bombs.

Israel doesn't have any ambition in Gaza. We left out of our free choice. We have never gone back to the idea of returning to Gaza. It's over. But we cannot permit that Gaza will become a permanent base of threatening and even killing children and innocent people in Israel for God knows why. I feel that in our hearts, we don't have any hatred for the Gazan people. Their suffering doesn’t carry any joy in our hearts. On the contrary, we feel that the better they will have it, better neighbors we shall have. Now that Hamas is turning to the Arab world for help, the truth is that the Arab world has to turn to Hamas for the help of Hamas. If Hamas will stop it, there is no need for any help. Everything can come again to normalcy. Passages: open; economic life: free; no Israeli intervention; no Israeli participation in any of the turnarounds in Gaza.

As a nation, we feel united. Let them turn to Hamas and ask them to stop shooting, and there won't be shooting.

Thank you very much.

Israel Prime Minister Ehud Olmert Comments on Gaza Operation

(Communicated by the Prime Minister's Media Adviser to the Israel News Agency)

Following are Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's remarks at tonight's press briefing on the operation in the Gaza Strip:

"Citizens of Israel,

For approximately seven years, hundreds of thousands of Israeli citizens in the south have been suffering from missiles being fired at them. Life in the south under missile barrages had become unbearable. Israel did everything in its power to fulfill the conditions of the calm in the south and enable normal life for its citizens in the communities adjacent to the Gaza Strip. The quiet that we offered was met with shelling.

No country can countenance such a reality! The lives of our citizens are not forfeit. In recent days, it became clear that Hamas is bent on conflict. Whoever heard Hamas's statements understood that they decided to increase attacks on the residents of Israel by firing rockets and mortars indiscriminately. In such a situation we had no alternative but to respond. We do not rejoice in battle but neither will we be deterred from it.

Preparations for the operation were extensive and thorough. The Security Cabinet unanimously approved it on Wednesday, 24.12.08, and when conditions were ripe, we decided to set the action in motion.

Yesterday (Friday), 26.12.08, I held a series of discussions with Defense Minister Ehud Barak, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, IDF Chief-of-Staff Lt.-Gen. Gaby Ashkenazi, ISA Director Yuval Diskin and other security establishment personnel, and it was decided that the operation would begin.

The operation in the Gaza Strip is designed, first and foremost, to bring about an improvement in the security reality for the residents of the south of the country. This is liable to take time and each one of us must be patient so that we can complete the mission.

We want to restore the quiet and the tranquility and give the residents of the south the ability to live the normal lives that every country provides its citizens.

Citizens of Israel,

As I made clear to my fellow ministers, it may be that the number of missiles will increase in the near future and that they will reach more distant places than we have been used to.

To my regret, an Israeli civilian from Netivot, Beber Vaknin, was killed today, and several people were wounded. I share in the families' sorrow and wish the wounded a quick recovery, both on my behalf and that of the Government. We have invested greatly in preparing for a conflict of this kind: Structural reinforcement, warning systems and other home front preparations. I call on the residents of the south to fully comply with IDF Home Front Command instructions. These will save lives and must be treated accordingly.

On Thursday, 25.12.08, I made it clear to the residents of Gaza that we are not acting against them and that we have no intention of punishing them for the actions of Hamas. We will see to the needs of the population in Gaza and will do our utmost to prevent a humanitarian crisis that will impinge upon residents' lives.

Residents of Gaza, we are not your enemies and we are not fighting against you. This terrorist organization has brought disaster to two peoples. Israel is not fighting the Palestinian people but the Hamas terrorist organization that has taken it upon itself to act against the residents of Israel. Therefore, the targets that were attacked today were selected accordingly, with stress being placed on avoiding harm to innocents.

Our precise intelligence, from the IDF Intelligence Branch and the Israel Security Agency, enabled maximum strikes at those involved in terrorism and minimized harm to innocents. This is how we will act in the future, as may be necessary. Israel is currently focusing on striking at the terrorist organizations that are operating to undermine stability in the entire region. I hope that no other element in the region will think that while Israel is fighting in the south, that it will it is inattentive to what is happening in other areas. We will not hesitate to respond to any aggression against us.

During the day, we spoke with the leaders of the main countries of the world and made it very clear that the situation cannot continue and that we were compelled to take action in order to halt the aggression against our citizens. We also made it clear that Israel will, at the same time, make every effort to prevent a humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.

Today, my heart is also with the Shalit family – Aviva, Noam, the children and grandfather Tzvi – who are certainly anxious this evening, along with very many others, over the fate of Gilad.

I call on the entire Israeli public to unite around the IDF operation and certainly appreciate the statements that have been issued this evening by Opposition Leader Benjamin Netanyahu, who expressed support for Israel's initiative, and by Israel Beteynu Party Chairman Avigdor Lieberman and the head of Meretz, Haim Oron. This is the time for all of us to unite in order to defend the residents of the south and the Government seeks to continue working on the basis of a broad national consensus in order to change the situation in the south of the country. All ministers and parties in the Government will give the defense establishment all the time that is necessary to carry out the mission with which it has been charged.

I would like to thank IDF Chief-of-Staff Lt.-Gen. Ashkenazi and all IDF soldiers, and ISA Director Diskin and all of his fighters, for their courage, determination and daring.

Israel Defense Force Goes On Offensive in Gaza; Terrorists Killed As IAF Strikes Police Compounds

Just days after the Israel cabinet gave the IDF final approval to counter ongoing Palestinian rocket fire against towns and cities in the western Negev, the IDF launched a massive operation, striking Hamas installations throughout the Gaza Strip on Saturday.

Ashkelon residents react...

Ashkelon residents react after a rocket fired by Palestinian terrorists hit the southern city.

Hamas's police spokesperson said that at least 40 people were killed in the initial attacks. Gaza health official Moawiya Hassanain later said that over 120 people were killed, and at least 200 injured.

According to witnesses, among the killed was Gaza Hamas police chief Tawfik Jaber.

Minutes after the first wave of airstrikes hit areas in the southern Gaza Strip, Palestinians reported a second wave which targeted installations in the center and the north of the Strip.

In response to news of a military operation, Magen David Adom announced that they were putting their staff on highest alert, and deploying over 200 ambulances throughout the country in the case of a Hamas counterattack. Further, the Home Front Command ordered residents in Sderot and the Gaza periphery to stack within reinforced saferooms as much as they can for the time being.

Shortly after the strikes began, Egypt was quoted by Al-Jazeera as condemning the Israeli action, calling it "an unprecedented massacre." Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas also condemned the operation, and issued a call for restraint, according to his aide, Nabil Abu Rdeneh.

Earlier, a Kassam fired from Gaza hit a building on a Sha'ar Hanegev kibbutz.

Damage was caused to the building, but no casualties were reported in the attack.

On Friday, two Palestinian girls were killed when a rocket fired by Palestinian terrorists landed short of its Israeli target.

According to witnesses, the girls were immediately killed after sustaining a direct hit. Gaza Health Ministry official Dr. Moiaya Hassanain identified the two victims as 5-year-old Hanin Abu Khoussa and her 12-year-old cousin, Sabah Abu Khoussa. Three other young people were wounded, Hassanain said.

Hamas announced that it planned to investigate the incident which occurred in the northern Gaza Strip town of Beit Lahiya.

Also Friday, Israel agreed to treat a 35-year-old Palestinian who was also wounded by a rocket fired from Gaza towards Israel.

The man was evacuated to Tel Aviv's Ichilov Hospital in serious condition after being transferred from a Palestinian ambulance to a Magen David Adom ambulance at the Erez Crossing. The man was wounded in a Kassam attack on Tuesday, and was since then treated in a Gazan hospital before medical officials decided to move him to Israel for treatment.

Twenty-five mortar shells have been fired into Israel from Gaza since Thursday night.

Where To Invest During A Recession? Food, Electricity, Internet Marketing / SEO

As the hours pass, the current recession starts to take on a dark, personal face.

People and companies that we know are being affected.

Many report that we are facing a depressing doomsday scenario - something reminiscent of the "Great Depression" of the 1930's.

But the fact is that tomorrow will come. The sun will rise and people will continue to work.
As a herd of homo sapiens, we are self inflicting this credit crunch recession by responding to fear.
As we fear more, we spend less - and that's the rub.

What we need to do is spend!
Governments are aware of this as they print up more money to kick-start domestic and global economies. But beyond governments, is there anything else we can do?

Yes. Invest!

Investing sounds like a bad word right now. But actually it is both a personal and social cure to all that ails us today.

Here is a list of solid investments - they cannot falter.
After all we will all still need electricity to keep us warm, telephone and Internet to communicate and food to keep us alive.

  1. Buy long-term Treasury bonds - governments cannot waiver on this.
  2. Stay defensive with consumer staples stocks - these are as constant as the sun, moon and sea. Toilet paper and home entertainment companies look good.
  3. Stick with health-care stocks - no one cares to get sick or stay in pain.
  4. Connect with utilities and telecom stocks - we will all need to complain to somebody.
  5. Internet marketing / SEO advertising companies - the cost is minimal compared to expensive print and broadcast advertising.
  6. Anything which is sex related. It's the cheapest drug to escape the bad news.
  7. Alcohol - the next cheapest drug.
  8. Casinos - we all hope to get rich quick.
  9. Defense manufacturers - as the recession takes hold national security feels a chill. The nation always needs to be protected.
  10. Valium and sleeping pills - since we don't know what will be tomorrow, we do know that we need to sleep!
Nothing is more important at this time than remaining positive and confident!
These two human characteristics are infectious and will get us by this challenging period with a smile.
Laugh at it.
Spit at it.

The only thing to fear - is fear itself!

London, Israel, New York SEO Marketing Helps Retailers Maximize Internet Sales, Defy Credit Crunch Recession

London, New York, Israel SEO Marketing Helps Retailers Maximize Internet Sales, Defy Recession

December 26, 2008

London, UK 12/26/08The run up to Christmas, 2008 has seen e-commerce become the focus for retailers across the UK.In the light of rising costs and consumers reigning in their spending to save money, the Internet is now seen as the place of choice for consumers, for comparisons and significant savings. Internet marketing for e-commerce sites has become the chosen method of promoting retail businesses.

“With Internet marketing and digital advertising budgets increasing, traditional advertising is being replaced by cost-effective, targeted, digital advertising and marketing campaigns”, states Joel Leyden, President of London SEO Marketing.

Leyden, who has provided commercial, non-profit and governmental organizations with professional Internet marketing, PR and SEO services since 1995, states that traditionally, where retailers would have used print and broadcast advertising, they are now using SEO – search engine optimisation and Internet marketing to generate sales, as well as to maintain a branding presence in the market.

The credit crunch recession has seen closures of retail outlets, both in London and across the United Kingdom, leading to an increase in Internet sales with the Internet being viewed as the buyer’s market.

The UK’s Office for National Statistics (ONS) reported that between May and June 2008, retail sales volumes fell by 3.9%, the largest monthly drop since records began in 1986.

Yet online sales have been strong. In fact, Internet sales may be rising more rapidly than anticipated because hard-pressed consumers are determined to find value for money. Also, the rocketing cost of fuel means many shoppers are cutting visits to brick-and-mortar stores and turning to the Web instead.

Major online retailers are realising that to maintain a presence in the market, they need to offer true multichannel shopping and delivery/return options, as well as value for money. This strategy ensures they will gain and keep their market share in the future. The businesses that are not moving towards Internet marketing, and digital advertising, for whom traditional print or broadcast advertising is now too expensive, are likely to stagnate or go out of business. Retail market leaders will spend more than in 2009 on digital advertising, Internet marketing and Internet public relations to ensure they attract and keep consumers’ attention. Consumers who want to save money are shaping the way the online retail market is developing.

Food, clothing, appliances and housewares have joined music, CDs, DVDs, books and tickets on the list of most-popular online buys. eMarketer estimates that UK business-to-consumer (B2C) e-commerce sales (including digital downloads and tickets for travel and events) will reach £59.8 billion in 2008, up from £46.6 billion in 2007, a 28% increase. Internet marketing, digital advertising and SEO, while not recession and credit crunch proof, remains recession-resistant and is forecast, for 2009 to continue to rise to £68.4 billion.

Much of the success of e-commerce sites also lies with the creation of trusted brands, with the consumer needing to feel safe when submitting data to an online organisation. A Universal McCann study in 2008 found that only 14 percent of users trust advertising, whereas 78 percent trust recommendations of other consumers. This highlights something many Internet marketers and digital advertising companies have known for a while: user generated content can be very beneficial. Consumers trust the recommendation of other consumers.

This is where SEO Internet marketing and digital advertising companies can help their clients. Blogs, viral marketing and Internet PR, can all provide brand trust by encouraging publication of feedback from the consumers who purchase the products or services and are happy to recommend them.

According to Bigmouthmedia, 79 percent of the top 100 PR Agencies in the United Kingdom do not offer online PR and Internet marketing services. Leyden Communications Group continue to maximise the opportunity for their clients to gain maximum Internet exposure to the army of online buyers choosing to shop online from the comfort of their living rooms.

“In a market where the phrases of the day are ‘recession’ and ‘credit crunch’ London SEO Marketing continues to help generate increased client visibility with Internet PR, viral marketing and SEO campaigns, creating unprecedented sales opportunities for their clients,” says Monique Lester, Managing Director of London SEO Marketing.

“With trends illustrating major cutbacks in conventional advertising for 2008, for Internet marketing and digital advertising, the best is yet to come.”

Cats In Israel Keep Warm On a Cold Night

New York Times: Internet Marketing / Advertising Works in a Recession!

Some Online Ads Thrive in a Miserable Economy

Most retailers, online and offline, appear to be feeling the pain from the rotten economy. But, of course, even in bad times, some businesses manage to do well. Take Raymond Galeotti, the owner and president of Evesaddiction.com, a five-year-old online seller of sterling silver jewelry. Mr. Galeotti said his business, whose annual sales are approximately $10 million, is up about 25 percent this holiday season.

The secret to his success: more aggressive online advertising, especially on Google.

Mr. Galeotti said he is bidding higher for Google ads and paying more per-click than he used to. But because of better targeting and measurement tools from Google — as well as offering selective discounts at Evesaddiction.com — his “conversion” rate, the percentage of clicks that turn into sales, has grown as well, more than offsetting his higher ad budget.

As an example, Mr. Galeotti said that he may be paying 80 cents a click this year, up from 50 cents a click last year. But because he gets four new customers for every hundred clicks now, instead of two new customers for every hundred clicks last year, he’s coming out ahead. His “customer acquisition cost” has gone down from $25 a customer (50 cents, times 100 clicks, divided by two) to $20 (80 cents, times 100 clicks, divided by four).

“We’re bidding higher, yet it is more cost-effective,” Mr. Galeotti said. “The conversion rate has gone up disproportionately.”

Obviously, this is the kind of story Google and other search marketers like to promote. The search companies, and many analysts, have long said that, even in a recession, search marketing should fare better than other forms of advertising, precisely because it is a cost-effective and measurable way for retailers to get customers into their stores.

Mr. Galeotti said that because of the better results, he has increased search ad spending on Google by about 25 percent this year, to about $1 million. “I’m on cloud nine,” he said about his results.

Of course, Google will need a lot of stories like this to offset what is likely to be a difficult quarter. And it is impossible to know how many Mr. Galeottis are out there, funneling ever more money into Google. To judge by analysts’ predictions, which seem to be getting gloomier with every passing week, the answer is “not enough.”

Incidentally, Mr. Galeotti said he is also placing search ads on Yahoo and Microsoft. They too are cost-effective, he said. There is one difference, however: “The amount of traffic we get from them doesn’t compare,” Mr. Galeotti said.

Christmas in Bethlehem Behind Barb Wire?

Really disappointed with this headline from RushPRNews:
Christmas in Bethlehem Behind Barb Wire
http://www.rushprnews.com

Thanks to Monique Lester for this response: "The headline: “Christmas in Bethlehem Behind Barb Wire” is misleading and inciteful. Bethlehem is today under PA control. Any barb wire that one might see is no different there than any other border crossing between nations and states around the world. In fact, one might just add this headline: “Christmas in Mexico Behind Barb Wire” as barb wire runs along the entire Texas / Mexican border.

Last, but not least, one can find both Hamas and Hezbollah in Bethlehem. They view all Christians as “infidels” as such many Christians who once lived in Bethlehem have now fled to Israel."

Wishing all of my Christian friends a very merry, happy, healthy and peaceful Christmas.

London UK, New York, Israel Businesses Confront Credit Crunch Recession With Internet Marketing

London UK, New York, Israel Businesses Confront Credit Crunch Recession
With Internet Marketing

London, UK ---- Leading financial institutions from London, New York and Paris to Los Angeles, Tel Aviv and China are protecting their clients from the credit crunch recession by directing them to Internet marketing, SEO, digital advertising and PR. Internet search engine king Google is now taking a proactive role advising the commercial world to: “speed up in an economic slowdown through cost-effective advertising.”

“It seems like it’s all doom and gloom out there with talk of the economic downturn. Truth is, there is still at least one place business can be cheery these days, and that’s online” Google states from their own Google Adwords campaign from London, UK.

“Online sales continue to grow, even as high street sales fall. So as the real economy shrinks, make sure you are part of the one economy still growing strongly, the online economy.”

John Wright, the National Chairman of the Federation of Small Businesses in London, UK is also advocating the use of Internet marketing, PR and SEO to secure sales and increase revenue during a credit crunch recession.

“Not so long ago, sales of goods and services came by word of mouth, next came displays. Touch, feel and smell followed, swiftly chased by Fleet Street, wireless and the box in the corner. Today we live in an online world, and with the growth of the Internet, small businesses are making the most of the online opportunities,” says Wright.

“In a recent survey of members of the Federation of Small Business, nearly half of respondents said that advertising their business on the internet yielded an increase in sales by nearly one fifth, highlighting how important it is for a firm to have an online presence. The same survey showed that the number of small firms who had a website has leapt by a quarter to around 70 per cent over the past two years.

These are testing times for small businesses. Our members are finding things tough – more than 80 per cent have seen the cost of operating rise over the last year and nearly half have seen trade decrease. Many are also struggling to get loans and overdrafts agreed with banks.
Turning to the internet can ensure small firms get the most out of their advertising and sales. Linking to other websites and using new technologies are among the most cost-effective ways of increasing sales and building brand awareness – especially during a downturn.”

Wright concludes: “But small businesses might feel that the online world is unwieldy and daunting – how can they compete with the likes of Amazon and eBay; where do they start? In short, small firms could really do with a bit of support and know-how. Google’s Internet marketing and advertising services will certainly provide a kick-start for those firms that need it.”

“We have never been busier, having signed more Internet marketing contracts in London, New York and Tel Aviv than in the last few months,” states Joel Leyden, President of London SEO Marketing.

“As conventional advertising in TV, radio and print media bleeds, we are hiring and expanding our operations throughout the UK, the US, Israel and now preparing to enter the China and India markets. Everyone has a Website. And today they realize that their Websites need to be found in the powerful and cost-effective manner.”

Times are tough for ad and PR agencies and they’re getting tougher. Spending is down — pushed by the recession.

But there’s a larger shift taking place as marketing dollars flow toward the Internet.
A major advertising conference last week in New York illustrated the shift — and struggles — within the industry.

Spending on traditional media such as broadcasting, print and outdoor is projected to decline 11 percent next year, its worst drop in 60 years, according to UBS Securities Research. The research firm’s assessment for 2009: “Only the Internet should remain positive.”
Online digital advertising is expected to grow 7 percent in the United States next year and, by 2010, should make up 14 percent of overall ad spending.

According to the Economist, spending on Internet digital advertising is much less speculative than other methods - with the publication adding it starts to be treated as a cost of sales instead.
The magazine goes on to say this is one of the reasons why online methods should suffer less than other sorts of website marketing.

It continues: "In short, online advertising will continue to expand in the recession - just not as quickly as previously expected."

Leyden says that as the Internet evolved into Web 2.0 social networking applications such as Facebook, LinkedIn, MySpace, YouTube, Craigslist and Blogger, small businesses realized that they could target their markets in a manner which was more personal, warm and effective.

“Going beyond Facebook, the use of the Google and Yahoo search engines have became paramount. Both small brick and mortar stores and large, multinational companies have realized that it was not enough to have an attractive Website but that one had to be found,” says Leyden, who has offices in the UK, US and Israel.

Research company eMarketer has forecast that Internet digital advertising on the Internet will continue to grow. In May, the firm was forecasting 17.2pc year-on-year growth in 2009 for online advertising in the UK.

The on-line Internet marketing research organizations estimated that spending on UK online advertising would reach £3.36bn in 2008 - a rise of 27.1pc.

“People have an inherent, natural and healthy ability to communicate with or without a recession,” says Leyden.

“As Internet SEO, social networking and viral marketing continue to expand addressing everything from dating, real estate, jobs, defense, family, cars, tourism to social issues, public affairs, crisis communications management, debt collection, entertainment, sports, fashion, finance, retail, cats, dogs and our health - Internet advertising and PR will become a vital and critical centerpiece in how to reach one’s target markets in a fast, lean and economic manner.”

“When the world’s largest financial, banking institutions and courts are now able to reach us through Facebook on our mobile phones to either serve legal papers or update us on our bank balances and we then make plans for dinner that night with a Website or SMS - wouldn’t restaurants, supermarkets, clothes stores and other small and medium sized businesses want to communicate their products and services through digital media? It’s cheap and effective. And that’s what people want during challenging, uncertain economic times.”

Leyden concludes: “This recession will force governments, banks and the major advertising, public relations agencies and their B2B and B2C clients to use Internet marketing and Web 2.0. advertising applications.”

Madoff - The Man American Jews Hate More Than Ahmadinejad

Madoff - The Man American Jews Hate More Than Ahmadinejad

By ALLISON HOFFMAN
The Jerusalem Post

Last week, during a conference call with American reporters and Jewish activists about Iran's nuclear ambitions, US Congressman Brad Sherman noted that he thought the threat was so dire that he was missing a hearing on the $700 billion bank bailout to talk about it.

Sherman, a Democrat who represents the heavily Jewish Sherman Oaks neighborhood in Los Angeles, added that he thought his constituents wouldn't mind - but then immediately voiced a political truth that has been simmering in the Jewish world all autumn: "I'm not sure they want the focus of the incoming administration to be on asking them to make sacrifices to deal with an Iran nuclear program that is not causing them any pain right now."

And that was before the Madoff financial scandal detonated, leaving a multibillion-dollar crater in the middle of the American Jewish community.

The disconnect between American Jews and Israelis showed up everywhere: At breakfast briefings about the Iranian threat, during conference calls, even during the General Assembly meeting last month in Jerusalem, when outgoing Prime Minister Ehud Olmert stood before the visiting American delegates and exhorted them to help lobby their government for sanctions to stop the Islamic Republic from going nuclear."Israel cannot afford it," he said, making an unfortunate pocketbook parallel. "The Jewish people cannot afford it."Instead of applause, there was only silence and tight grins as the audience shifted uncomfortably.

The more forthright among them said later what they had been thinking: What the American Jewish community really couldn't afford right then, with donations down and programs shrinking, was a junket to Israel. For once, they felt, the threat was at home, rather than along the fragile borders of the Jewish state.

Now, American Jewry feels its future is under immediate existential attack - from a threat that was hidden within all along.

UNTIL THIS week, Jewish investors were no more or less exposed than everyone else to the economic downward spiral. The Wall Street firms that went down - Bear Sterns, Lehman Brothers - had Jewish roots, but they were no longer the Jewish companies they used to be. As a result, Israelis could be forgiven for being a little bit dubious about their American cousins' claims about financial despair, especially in the face of a genuine existential threat.

Sure, okay, 40 percent of everyone's investment portfolios had been wiped out, but, hey, America was so rich to start with, and there was still the other 60% in the bank. It's just money, right?

Bernard Madoff changed all that. Here was a Jewish financier who, despite having billions in investments from large banks, appears to have focused heavily on building his investor network in the Jewish community. And the ripple effect is already being felt in Israel among organizations dependent on foundations that had invested in what Madoff himself allegedly described as "a giant Ponzi scheme."

This is not to say that Jewish causes have been the only, or even the biggest, losers in the implosion of Madoff's $50 billion securities operation. European banks, in particular, have lost billions. But by shafting Jewish megadonors, Jewish charities and Jewish institutions - from hospitals and schools to nursing homes - Madoff earned himself a dubious honor once also bestowed on Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad: A full photo on the front page of the New York Post.

The headline that ran with it?
"The Most Hated Man in NY."

Internet Marketing, Digital Advertising, SEO Beats Recession In London, New York, Tel Aviv

By Monique Lester
Israel News Agency

Tel Aviv----December 18, 2008 ....... The Internet, which was originally created by US intelligence organizations back in 1969, appears to be coming to the aid of world financial markets in 2008. The Leyden Communications Group, a respected Internet news, public relations, on-line media and viral marketing pioneer, states that as global companies consolidate, lay off workers and cut advertising budgets to confront the global economic recession, Internet marketing, advertising, PR and SEO - search engine optimization is continuing to expand.

Advertising professionals and Internet marketing research firms are now stating that global advertising spending will fall by 0.2 per cent in 2009, a worse performance than that in the 1990s recession. But while newspaper, TV and radio advertising media takes a big hit, Internet digital advertising spending, already more than a fifth of total advertising, will grow by a whopping 16.8 per cent.

"Internet marketing, PR and advertising were always highly cost-effective sales tools," says Joel Leyden, Internet pioneer and Chairman of the Leyden Communications Group.

"The first to recognize the power of the Internet was the Advanced Research Projects Agency Network and the United States Department of Defense to communicate and decentralize mission critical operations in the event of a nuclear attack. These agencies were later joined by the CIA, NSA and US military intelligence to gather information from the Internet. As the Internet opened for commerce in 1994, the first organizations to lead the pack for marketing, advertising and PR were adult and casino Websites. And they have reached millions since, earning billions of dollars."

Leyden says that as the Internet evolved into Web 2.0 social networking applications such as Facebook, LinkedIn, MySpace, YouTube, Craigslist and Blogger, small businesses realized that they could target their markets in a manner which was more personal, warm and effective.

"Going beyond Facebook, the use of the Google and Yahoo search engines have became paramount. Both small brick and mortar stores and large, multinational companies have realized that it was not enough to have an attractive Website but that one had to be found," says Leyden, who has offices in the UK, US and Israel.

"Google Adwords is expected to generate over 10 billion dollars in revenue for Google for 2008. And that is for PPC or pay per click advertising. For those who choose not to pay Google for their extensive and highly effective Adwords and Adsense Internet advertising campaigns they might opt to combine Adwords or go alone with SEO or search engine optimisation marketing efforts which produce powerful organic search engine position placement results. The only red flag here is that the consumer must truly check out the work and the reputation of the domestic and or international SEO advertising company as over 80 percent of them are fraudulent. If you find a truly professional SEO company in London, New York or Tel Aviv which knows how to integrate professional news, PR copy writing with programming and graphics, then you may be able to not only survive the current recession, but actually increase your revenue."

Research company eMarketer has forecast that advertising on the Internet will continue to grow. In May, the firm was forecasting 17.2pc year-on-year growth in 2009 for online advertising in the UK.

The on-line Internet marketing research organizations estimated that spending on UK online advertising would reach £3.36bn in 2008--a rise of 27.1pc.

"The good news is that even though advertising in traditional media is down sharply, online is bucking the trend, at least to an extent," says Karin von Abrams, eMarketer senior analyst.
Internet mobile advertising is also one of the few areas of the global technology sector that may just be largely recession-proof. Just think of how important mobile phones have become to a broad range of people--from those of moderate means to the wealthy. According to the Mobile Marketing Association (MMA), there are now 267 million mobile phone users in the U.S.--up from 251 million at the end of Q4 of 2007. And all of these new mobile telephones are able to receive Internet advertising.

London and the rest of the UK is faring particularly well with over 25 million SMS text messages sent each day.

"People have an inherent, natural and healthy ability to communicate with or without a recession," says Leyden.

"As Internet SEO, social networking and viral marketing continue to expand addressing everything from dating, real estate, jobs, defense, family, cars, tourism to social issues, public affairs, crisis communications management, debt collection, entertainment, sports, fashion, finance, retail, cats, dogs and our health - Internet advertising and PR will become a vital and critical centerpiece in how to reach one's target markets in a fast, lean and economic manner. When the world's largest financial, banking institutions and courts are now able to reach us through Facebook on our mobile phones to either serve legal papers or update us on our bank balances and we then make plans for dinner that night with a Website or SMS - wouldn't restaurants, supermarkets, clothes stores and other small and medium sized businesses want to communicate their products and services through digital media? It's cheap and effective. And that's what people want during challenging, uncertain economic times."

Leyden concludes: "This recession will force governments, banks and the major advertising, public relations agencies and their B2B and B2C clients to use Internet marketing and Web 2.0. Advertising applications."
